About Us

Derechos Humanos y Diversidad Asociación Civil, was funded in 2022 thanks to the courage of some LGBTIQ+ activists from Argentina, who, after having worked in multiple organizations and had years of expertise, decided to create this organization to give a new impetus to their activism for LGBTIQ+ people in Argentina and the Latin American and Caribbean region.

We are a non-governmental, non-profit organization; we advocate for and promote the rights of the LGBTIQ+ population in Argentina and the Latin American and Caribbean region.

Derechos Humanos y Diversidad Asociación Civil will be the organization with the most significant impact and results in advocacy and promoting human rights for LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers and refugees at the national level, with international projection.

Service Center

Through the “Service Center for LGBTIQ+ Asylum Seekers and Refugees,” we provide support services for the integration and well-being of the LGBTIQ+ refugee population. These services include general orientation, immigration advice, guidance for access to the healthcare system, psychological and psychiatric support, advice for access to hormonal treatments and antiretroviral therapy, and free Spanish classes, all in safe spaces for the LGBTIQ+ community. We work with ally organizations such as ADRA, the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association, and United Nations agencies such as the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Community Sponsorship

The goal of community sponsorship is to change lives and empower communities while also assisting those who need international protection due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. The program offers the possibility for ordinary people to make a significant difference, abandoning the role of mere observers in the plight of refugees and actively participating in helping them and being part of history. Each sponsorship group that is created represents the opportunity to assist a person or family in starting a new life in a different country.
If you create a sponsorship group in your community, you can provide direct help to refugees who belong to the LGBTIQ community. These groups must comprise at least three people agreeing to sponsor a family or refugee person for 12 months jointly. All group members must share tasks and responsibilities and commit in front of the Argentine State to provide financial, emotional, and any other help necessary to support the integration process in a new community.
This program is being developed together with the canadian based organization Rainbow Railroad.

Research, Advocacy and Tools

In Derechos Humanos y Diversidad we carry out national and international advocacy.
We constantly work with government entities and various organizations to guarantee the access to human rights of LGBTIQ+ people in need of international protection. We participate in forums on human rights, migration, and the intersection with LGBTIQ+ people. It is important to us to be in constant learning. Additionally, we generate statistics on the situation of LGBTIQ+ refugees in Argentina from interviews and focus groups.
